HOW WE OPERATE

Future Farms Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to tackling climate change and strengthening UK food security by acquiring and protecting farmland, working with farmers committed to regenerative practices that restore soil health and biodiversity.

We remove farmland from speculative markets, offer affordable tenancies and practical support to regenerative farmers, and produce diverse, nutritious local crops from soils that sequester carbon in organic matter.

What's the goal?

At Future Farms Foundation, we know that regenerated land holds the key to addressing the world’s biggest challenges. We reject the notion that farmland should be seen solely as a resource for industrial-scale agriculture or an investment commodity.

We recognise that many farmers lack the means to manage their land in line with their environmental convictions, often facing intense cost pressure and competition from abroad.

There is still a gap between the public’s desire to support sustainable farming and farmers’ ability to transition. Many people want to make choices that help the planet and the next generations, yet few have clear ways to directly support the farmers who share those values. To close this gap, Future Farms Foundation aims to be the vital connector our system needs : a citizen-led initiative stepping in where other actors are over-constrained.

Our ambition is twofold: to acquire farmland and permanently remove it from speculative markets, and to support farmers dedicated to regenerative agriculture, helping them to thrive.

Our Farmers

Why it matters

Climate change is no longer a future threat. It’s already destabilising our food systems and rising temperatures are on track to displace half of the world’s population within our children’s lifetime. At the same time, soil degradation and just‐in‐time supply chains make the UK alarmingly vulnerable to food shocks. For farmers, this means facing declining yields, rising costs, and increasing uncertainty.

Regenerative farming, by rebuilding soil health, actively captures atmospheric carbon, mitigating climate change, while also producing more diverse and nutrient-rich food.

By protecting farmland and enabling regenerative practices, we will help tackle the climate crisis, strengthen farmers’ livelihoods, enhance our food resilience, and ensure the produce on our plates nourishes both people and planet..
